Differentiated teaching doesn’t work! Or does it…?
Theoretical considerations and practical solutions for teaching mixed abilities

It is a widely accepted observation among educators that any class is a mixed-ability class. While the latest research shows that differentiated instruction can have a hugely positive impact on learning, the reality is that teachers, more often than not, work long hours and have too many students in their classrooms, whom they can sometimes struggle to motivate – and all this makes differentiation a challenge.

In this session, Herbert Puchta will explore the tools and mindset we need to differentiate our teaching of young teenagers effectively and with little or no extra preparation time. Get to know a unique system of individualized practice that is sure to support every student in improving their learning outcomes!

Herbert will share a few practical examples from his new coursebook Options (for lower secondary learners), and his recently published resource book (with Chris Jory) Differentiation in ELT: A fresh take on teaching mixed-ability classes, both published by Helbling.
